The Hongwanji Place is a store front walk-in center in Little Tokyo in Los
Angeles established as a non-profit religious organization to service the needs of members
of temples of the BCA in the Southern District, members in temples in other districts,
other Kyodans, and to the public at large. It will provide books on Jodoshinshu
Buddhism in particular and Buddhism and Asian culture in general, religious articles and
supplies, and Japanese and Asian-American gifts. The idea of The Hongwanji Place
is service and not profit. The goal is to be self-sufficient financially, with any
profits being funneled back into the facility and its services, especially the publication
of books on Jodoshinshu. It will also provide classes in such things as Juzu making
and repair, craft classes and ideas for Dharma School, and eventually classes in the
making of Happi, Yukata, Tenugui, and other articles for Bon Odori. |
