2005 Federation of Dharma School
Teacher's League Conference
Workshop 2
Workshop 2 was designed around a
series of exercises and icebreaker type of activities. These activities
included an exercise on chosing
your Bodhisattva Name. This exercise was held based on the Dharmakara
(Hozo Bosatsu) story where the King renounced his Kingdom and throne to
pursue the Buddhist Path. In the story, the King chose the name Dharmakara
(lit. Dharma Storehouse) before embarking upon his path towards
Enlightenment and eventually becoming the Buddha Amida.
Following this exercise the group
went over some of the terms that were described in the animated video
“Okina Negai.” A short glossary
of terms was passed out. We then discussed some of the rituals
we perform and the meaning
of some of the rituals and the objects used in those rituals. Finally, we
participated in a quiz about some of the Buddhist Holidays we observe.
